Anti-Inflammatory and arthritis in dogs - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Arthritis affects one in five dogs over the age of seven. It is a painful degenerative inflammatory condition that affects the joints and can occur in your dog's neck, hips, shoulders, elbows and back. It is one of the most common causes of pain, discomfort, lameness and restricted mobility that we treat.

Many older dogs get stiff and sore especially during cold weather or after exercising. This is likely due to basic wear and tear, injury, poor exercise patterns and poor diet. Most dogs with diagnosed Rheumatism or Arthritis are on long term anti-inflammatory drugs for pain, and most of these are at risk from the side effects of such medications.

Herbal medicine throughout the ages had a large number of herbs at its disposal to treat a wide variety of aches and pains and I have chosen a combination of very reliable remedies offering the possibility of reversing the condition altogether.

McDowells recommendations

The aim of this formula is to detoxify the dog's system, reduce inflammation and stimulate circulation. Owners have reported that their dog has had improved mobility and comfort with continued use. Many have been able to reduce the use of pharmaceutical pain killers and/or anti-inflammatory drugs. This is a long term treatment and the herbs can be used safely alongside conventional medicines.

This formulation contains Devils Claw, White Willow, Guiacum, Burdock, Pine Bark, Elecampane, Yarrow and Rosehips as well as the Bach Flower remedies Honeysuckle, Vine, Walnut and Rescue Remedy.

I find this combination very useful and safe in replacing, fully or partially, dependence on pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory and pain killing drugs.

Once benefits are achieved through the use of this treatment and dependence in pharmecutical anti-inflammatories is reduced, I recommend a followup consultation during which I will investigate the underlying causes of your dog's condition. I will then be able to make suggestions and formulate more specific treatments if necessary to further improve your dog's long term prospects and quality of life.
