A cataract can be seen as a cloudiness in the eye, caused by a change in the structure of the lens. The lens is contained in a sealed bag or capsule. As old cells die they become trapped within the capsule. Over time, the cells accumulate causing the lens to look cloudy or opaque. This makes the images that the cat sees blurred or fuzzy. A cataracts does not cause any pain but it will damage the cat's ability to see clearly at night and will eventually lead to nearsightedness. Cataracts usually occurs with age but may also be caused by metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, inherited tendencies, or degenerative retinal diseases.
There's several different causes of cataracts and they usually get worse over time, causing loss of vision and eventually, complete blindness.
Causes of cataracts include:
- Diabetes
- Old age
- Genes
- Glaucoma
- Uveitis
- Injury
During our consultation, we may recommend our herbal Eye Wash Program, which will quickly bring your dog's eye health up to its maximum potential. At the very least I would expect to stop further deterioration.
Eye infections, irritations and injuries too, can be soothed by providing traditionally antiseptic and nourishing herbs (diluted) directly to the eye itself. This reliable formula includes antiseptic herbs like Celandine which contains high levels of natural Vitamin A. Diluted application helps to nourish tissue directly and may assist to ease trauma and prevent infection.
After this with continued use there is the potential to reverse any eye condition including cataract although beyond a certain point I don't expect to get full vision back.
It is certainly the place to start however and the mixture is safe and simple.
