Rosemary has been used for centuries as a herb to stimulate and revitalise the hair and scalp. History has shown that women in the Mediterranean use rosemary as a rinse to deepen colour and encourage the growth of their hair! As an added benefit, it also smells beautiful.
What are the benefits of rosemary for hair?
- Promotes growth
- Slows the thinning as it contains ursolic acid that can stimulate scalp circulation
- Soothes an itchy and irritated scalp
- Can treat dandruff as it is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties.
- Reduces the oiliness of hair
How To Make Rosemary Hair Rinse:
Ingredients:
1. Fresh rosemary sprigs (dried if fresh isn't available)
2. Water (how easy is that?!)
Method:
Bring the water to the boil and then turn off the heat and add the rosemary. Do not boil the rosemary or you will reduce the volatility of the oils.
Let it seep like a tea. After it cools, strain and store in a bottle, preferably glass, for up to two weeks.
To use:
Pour over your head and scalp after shampoo and conditioning (with non-toxic products!). Leave in for at least ten minutes.
You can leave in or rinse out. Doing the final rinse with cold rosemary hair rinse or cold water closes the hair follicle and helps with shine.
