Endometriosis - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrium like glands and stroma (or the normal inner lining of the uterus) occurring outside the uterus. It is often a painful condition and is involved in up to 50% of infertility cases. In the general population (of the USA) endometriosis is found in 7 to 10% of all reproductive age women...

Holistic medicine offers a great deal in the way of explanation of why it is so common in western women.

I find a combination of counselling along with physical and energetic healing most effective and I recommend that my Endometriosis patients also seek Reiki or other energetic healing, in conjunction with my herbal/ homeopathic treatment approach.

The mixture I provide to assist in reversing the condition consists of a concentrated extract of the herbs; Pulsatilla, Phytolacca, Chamomile, Elecampane, Equisetum and Wild Yam along with the Bach Flower Remedies Walnut, Mimulus, Willow and Impatiens.

This is a not uncommon condition found in the 20-35 year age group

  1. Important to work out stress by some form of yoga or meditation or diaphragmatic breathing, to assist with any emotional problems.
  2. Become involved in creative activities such as joining a gardening or book club, painting or pottery class. Getting out and involved can be very therapeutic.
  3. Walk/exercise at least 4 times a week for 30 minutes. Walking and enjoying nature can be very uplifting and help put life in perspective.
  4. Emotional issues are associated with most of human illness and diseases so I urge you to take up some form of energetic healing or Reiki to address this side of your life.
  5. I recommend 2 tablespoons of flaxseed oil daily, if you aren't already taking a fish oil supplement.
  6. Castor oil packs are also very helpful in treating endometriosis. No one can explain exactly how they work, but experience has shown that they often make the difference between the success of a natural treatment and its failure.
