Irritable Bowel Symndrome can often be a whole gamut of digestive problems lumped under one title.
It essentially is a strong response to foods, stress and bile (digestive enzymes)acids.
It can also often have an emotional component stemming from childhood issues, anxiety, depression, sleep quality.
Treatment
Do you have more problems with constipation or diarrhea ?
- If you have constipation problems then I suggest you take psyllium husks (buy at heath food shop) -1 heaped teaspoon daily with your muesli or porridge or yoghurt each morning .
- Abnormal bowel flora needs to be healthy or as you say or the bloating can be very bad.-a good probiotic (even more than a good yoghurt ) is very helpful . Miessence make good ones .
- Diet- Allergies to the following foods can be a problem:- wheat, onion, dairy, choc, coffee, eggs, citrus, - do any of these make the IBS worse that you know of, Try cutting out dairy or any refined white wheat flour products for a start, and keep track of the results .
- Slippery elm powder -1 heaped teaspoon twice daily either sprinkled on cereal in the morning or mixed into yoghurt, stewed fruit, or mashed banana later before meals.
- Drinking peppermint tea, chamomile tea, dandelion tea/coffee on a daily basis is good for liver and reducing spasms.
- Mintec- enteric coated peppermint oil capsules are available and would be helpful.
- Meditation would be wonderful Joline- allow yourself the time -maybe learn from some one initially.
- Herbal mix- including St Mary's Thistle, Chamomile, Meadowsweet, Hypericum
