Herbs have traditionally been used to assist a person to come back to a healthy state of well being. Individual herbs, specifically prescribed for a particular situation may assist the body to come back into balance, thereby allowing a healthy homeostasis to be reinstated as nature intended. The herbalist looks to the whole person, their values and attitudes as well as their circumstances and physical condition along with other aspects of their individuality. This is in marked contrast to the allopathic medicine approach.

Below you will find an example of selected herbs for a particular condition. Herbal support can take a variety of forms and combinations, so it is vital that each person consult directly with a qualified holistic practitioner to gain the full benefit of immunity and health building support.

This mixture evolved over the years as the all purpose flu remedy in my own family's file at the clinic. By the time my kids had worked their way through every variation of viral and bacterial infection an all purpose mixture had evolved in the file which deals with all manner and combinations of bronchial, throat, sinus and ear infections.

The herbal mix includes - Yarrow, Rosehips, Garlic, Fenugreek, Echinacaea, Ginger, Thyme, Nettle and Liquorice along with the Bach Flowers Olive and Chestnut Bud.

This mix is best given very frequently (5 or 6 doses per day) at the earliest sign of flu and then continued for a couple of weeks after all signs have abated. If you follow this procedure through all the early years of a child's life by the time they are 7 or 8 they have a bullet proof immune system for this sort of illness. This immunity will allow the child to deal with a severe cold or flu in a matter of only two or three days.

My own children have never had antibiotics for any reason and that is not because I wouldn't give them if they were needed. The fact is, that if you follow preventative and supportive treatment programs during their early years, antibiotics are not necessary and therefore will be much more effective if they are ever required.
