Allergic Rhinitis - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Many people are prone to runny noses, itchy eyes and sneezing, often called 'Hay Fever' when it occurs mainly in spring or at times of change in the weather. Other cases seem to occur following exposure to other airborne particles and even to certain foods or additives.

Hay Fever is not an illness as such, but rather an over-enthusiastic immune system response. It is fine to cough and sneeze and have runny eyes when one is exposed to 'Tear Gas' or some other strongly irritating substance and this type of response will certainly protect the sensitive tissues of the eyes, nose and upper respiratory tract from harm. However, constant over-reaction damages the immune system and pharmaceutical drugs like anti-histamines do nothing to address the root cause, they just depress the symptoms temporarily.

The list of herbs I include in my standard mix for Allergic Rhinitis are Chamomile, Euphorbia, Fenugreek, Horseradish, Vervain, and Alfalfa. Along with these I also include the Bach Flowers Walnut, Impatiens and Rock Rose.

This herbal mixture works by nourishing the nervous system and calming the immune system, while at the same time supporting a return to normal of the irritated mucus membranes.

This is a standard mix suitable for most people. In those cases it is not 100% effective I can modify the formula to suit an individuals particular case after consultation.
