Asthma Support (Exercise Induced) - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Real asthma is a condition where a patient finds it difficult to exhale during an attack and generally have difficulty breathing often sounding wheezy.

With recent inhalant medicines many other chest conditions have been classified under the same heading as asthma and so that nowadays many people who are really allergic and weak chested people who are prone to infection in the bronchial tubes are all classified as Asthmatics.

Many of our best competitive swimmers started out as asthmatics who were introduced to the sport as a means of controlling breathing. So also the Buteko regulated breathing technique is successful in so many cases.

I always advise parents of asthmatic childen never to be content to rely on medications alone and not to overuse them. Also, that they should introduce their children to any sport or activity which will allow them to control their breathing and focus their attention on achievement.

Why is there so much asthma in Australia?

It is not what you would expect with our clean air and hygeine. My herbal teacher who has done some research into the condition found that Australia and Scotland who both have a high incidence of asthma also have a high incidence of induced births.

In a natural birth the adrenal gland of the foetus sends a signal to say "start birthing - I'm ready to start breathing" , so when a foetus is induced it is not actually ready to start breathing which sets up difficulties from the start.

My mix for exercise induced asthma includes Horsetail, Elecampane, Nettle, Cactus, Hawthorn, Marshmallow, Golden Seal and Rue along with Oak and Olive.

This mix taken regularly will work as a preventative to asthma attacks. However do not take anyone off their orthodox asthma medication . A period of transition is needed when there is an overlap with both orthodox and herbal .

On an emotional level asthma is an inability to breathe for one's self, a feeling of being stifled.
You need to feel safe enough to take charge of your own life.
