Phlebitis - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

sag5.jpg

Phlebitis is the clotting and inflammation of veins. This can occur superficially or at a deeper level. This can happen "superficially" in the varicose veins of the legs. Phlebitis is more often than not created by a slight injury which then causes the thrombus to adhere to a vein wall.

Superficial phlebitis rarely causes an embolism as the thrombus is extremely hard to dislodge.

The symptoms arise rapidly and include pain, swelling, redness and heat. The vein itself feels like a hard cord. Symptoms may pass by themselves over some days though the tenderness and hardness may take some weeks.

The likelihood of this condition occurring may be increased by pregnancy if prone to varicose veins.

My mix includes Oats, Rue, White Willow, Elecampane, Yarrow, Horsechestnut along with the Bach Flowers Mimulus,Vine and Crab Apple.
