Depression is more than just a low mood - it's a serious illness. People with depression find it hard to function every day and may be reluctant to participate in activities they once enjoyed.

Depression is one of the most common of all mental health problems. One in five people experience depression at some stage of their lives. It (depression) is not a fleeting sadness but a pervasive and relentless sense of despair. A lack of interest in life accompanied by weight loss, loss of appetite, feelings of uselessness and sleep disturbance are some of the more common symptoms.

Symptoms may include:

  • Lack energy
  • Apathy
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Poor appetite
  • Guilt
  • Sadness
  • Irritable
  • Carbohydrate and sugar cravings

Suggestions:

  • Consider life style including exercise, diet.
  • Beware of alcohol, drug use including smoking, excessive sex, intake of tea and coffee
  • Use relaxation techniques and other mental hygiene techniques.
  • Consult a counsellor
  • Rub on temples or burn lavender Oil
