Meningitis Recovery Program - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Meningitis is quite simply an inflammation of the meninges, which is the lining that encloses the brain inside the Skull.

There are a variety of reasons why this lining can become inflamed and in the old days it was associated with a variety of infections including commonly pathogens found in hen houses and pigeon coops.

Nowadays I would suggest a more likely cause would be a drug reaction to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics or a wide range of other chemical medicines.

In my own practice I have found a disturbing number of examples of meningitis developing after a reaction to the measles vaccine.

The diagnostic test for Meningitis is very simple. If you lay a person with the severe headache, which you suspect to be meningitis on their back and lift their head up gently they will report that doing this causes severe pain.

This movement actually stretches the meninges and causes great pain.

Normally patients end up in hospital in an acute case where their symptoms come on very quickly. Emergency treatment may include a lumbar puncture to identify the infection and relieve pressure on the brain along with ntibiotics.

I do not recommend that you try to treat an acute case at home but once the condition has been identified and the emergency treatment carried out, there is great benefit in using herbal treatments to assist in the recovery.

The particular formulation I use for patients recovering from Meningitis consists of: Hypericum, Garlic, Nettle, Sage, Elecampane, Mugwort, Ginseng, Maritime Pine and White Willow along with the Bach Flower Rescue Remedy.

This mix may be started at any time in the cycle of this illness from the moment it is diagnosed and is best continued for 12 weeks at least to allow the best change of full recovery and to minimise any risk of brain damage.
