peph1.jpg

A burn is an injury to skin resulting from heat, chemicals or electricity. Burns can effect the skin and also the tissues beneath depending on the severity of the burn.

When tissues are damaged fluid leaks from the blood vessels causing swelling and even shock as blood pressure drops. Bacterial infections are then a very real threat once the skin is broken.

Burns are classified as either first, second,or third degree depending on their severity.

One must never underestimate the results of sunburn both acute and longterm.

Generally exposure to sunlight causes a range of problems as in swelling, pain, redness, blisters, wrinkles, yellow discolouration, scaling and the thinning of the skin over time and of course sunburn predisposes one to skin melanomas in the future.

External Treatment varies according to severity but can include the following:-

  • Chamomile teabags in the bath can soothe sunburnt skin
  • Unbroken burns can be treated by holding the effected area in tap water for an extended time.
  • Olive Oil Tincture mixed with egg white effectively soothes and seals the area.
  • Aloe Vera is perfect for the heat, swelling, pain and irritation of sunburn.
  • Raw Linseed oil massaged after healing to re-elastize the scar tissue.

A Sun Sensitivity Cream to support the healing of skin cells can be useful.

Internal Treatment for severe burns includes a mix of Rosehips, Yarrow, Aloe, Hypericum, Garlic, Marshmallow and Burdock plus the Bach Flowers Holly, Willow, Impatiens.

On an emotional energy level burns may indicate an anger, a feeling of being incensed.
