The Future of Western Medicine - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Traditional medicine jars and remediesWestern Medicine is approaching difficult times nowadays with the development of drug resistant infections, the failure of antibiotics generally and the indications arising that some conditions are beginning to cross species lines.

Traditionally, medical demands have been met by experienced individuals in societies who have gathered experience to help members deal with births, deaths, wounds, accidents, illnesses or minor surgical needs. Often this person was female, and often she would have one or more apprentices gathering experience for their own future role as healers.

With the development of formal education, and of chemistry, early last century the males and the academics saw the opportunity of capitalizing on medicine by treating it as a chemical science.

Much of early chemistry was trying to understand why different substances affected health and pain and the development of chemical pain medicines and antibiotics were the two major discoveries of last century. Earlier vaccinations and inoculations like that for small pox were developed in the 1500's by earlier healers.

Chemical Medicine attempted to take over control of our health requirements and needs and specialized particularly in defining what chemicals were to be found in antiseptics and traditional pain management agents like white willow bark from which Aspirin was initially derived. The second major invention was in methods to control bacterial infection and Sulpha Drugs and Antibiotics were derived by analyzing the components of Garlic and isolating bacterial treating fungi, which were used by traditional practitioners.

The over prescription of antibiotics and the domination of symptom control, as the primary mode of treatment of medical conditions, has led to the current difficulties. Medical health has always been dependent on our own immune systems ability to respond to any health condition by building up resistance to any chemical, bacterial or fungal situation which threatens our health.

Pain control, Chemical Medicine, over prescription and over vaccination etc have all actually depleted our natural immunity levels.
