An ulcer develops in the lining of the digestive tract when the defence mechanism protecting the duodenum or stomach from stomach acids and digestive enzymes break down. One in ten people develop a stomach ulcer regardless of how much stomach acid they secrete.
A peptic ulcer is a well defined round sore where the lining has been eaten away by stomach acid. The different names of the ulcers identify their anatomical position or the circumstances under which they develop, ie duodenum, oesophageal etc.
Gastric Ulcers normally develop later in life from taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These erosions and ulcers tend to heal when the medication is stopped.
The symptoms of peptic ulcers may vary and can stop and recur , typical ones are a gnawing, burning and an aching sore empty feeling. The pain develops by mid morning and is felt in a definite area just below the breast bone.
Drinking milk and eating relieves the pain but it returns 2 or 3 hours later.
It can also waken you at 1am or 2 am . Pain can reoccur in periods of stress or seasonally.
Gastric Ulcers have different symptoms in that they may feel worse after eating, causing bloating, nausea and vomitting.
On an emotional level we can't stomach who we are and hold a big fear of not being good enough and we eat ourselves up trying to please others, so do everything you know to raise your self esteem and most importantly be gentle and loving to the child within.
The treatment for these conditions involves firstly taking 1 dessertspoon of Slippery Elm Powder mixed with yoghurt, mashed banana or cold chamomile tea.
Slippery Elm provides a protective lining to the mucosal lining of the gastro intestinal system and in 12 weeks will heal an irritated lining.
Secondly a herbal mixture to support the healing is made up from the following ingredients; Alfalfa, Chamomile, Dandelion, Marshmallow, Slippery Elm and Aloes with the Bach Flower Remedies Larch, Willow, Aspen and Wild Oat.
This mix is taken at a dose rate of 20 drops three times daily in a cup of cold chamomile tea.
The treatment must be maintained initially for at least 3 months and most folk find that when they have finished with the Slippery Elm they generally benefit further from maintaining the herbal tonic as a supplement for longer, usually until their circumstances have completely changed.
