Arrhrythmia (Atrial Fibrillation) Herbal Treatment - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

cal24.jpg

Arrhrythmia or atrial flutter are very fast electrical patterns that make the atria of the heart contract rapidly causing the ventricals to contract faster with less efficiency. Ventricular rhythms become irregular unable to keep up with the atria. These patterns may be intermittment or persistent, making it difficult to effectively pump blood out of the heart resulting in a fall of blood pressure and possible heart failure.

Atrial fibrillation or flutter may occur with no other signs of heart disease. Rather, the cause can be an underlying problem such as alcohol abuse, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, increased thyroid hormone or rheumatic heart disease. The pulse with fibrillation will be irregular while with a flutter the pulse may still be regular but fast.

A ventricular rate of more than 120 beats per minute may produce unpleasant palpatations or chest discomfort, as well , due to diminished pumping ability the person may feel weak, faint and short of breath leading to pain and shock. Long term repercussions of inefficient pumping may also result in blood stagnating and clotting that can break off and cause blockages in arteries .

The herbal mix to alleviate these conditions include Cactus and Hawthorn which address the uneveness of heart rhythm, weakening beat and chest pain. Gelsemium drops are also included which reduces the shock and relaxes the muscles of the chest so breathing can occur. Oats is added to give strength and Mugwort to balance the electrical patterns. The Bach Flowers included are Rescue Remedy, Oak, Vervain, Chestnut Bud and Olive.

On an energetic level - our heart represents love and our blood joy . Heart problems may indicate belief in strain and stress and a lack of simple joy being allowed to flow through our bodies. Look for the simple joys!
