April at Winterwood Farm has been filled with amazing weather and an great opportunity to put some time and work in to the off-grid facilties. Living 'off-grid' generally refers to not utilising public utilities like mains supplied power, water and gas. Winterwood Farm will be the home of Landark Polyculture.

Stage 1 of off-grid living.
Below is the the site office/lunch room located near the dressage arena.

We've installed a 40 metre solar bore, which will give us access to water for stock and trees in drier times.

Stage 3

Is house, source architecture in Orange NSW currently developing concept drawings.

There is space on Winterwood Farm dedicated to kangaroos and wildlife.
All the land around Winterwood is agricultural land and quite a few farmers shoot kangaroos. They do this in the belief that kangaroos are competing with their own stock for feed, despite the fact that science shows that one cow eats the same as fifty kangaroos!
Kangaroo
We are destroying kangaroo habitat at an incredibly rapid rate. Drought, urbanisation and development, road accidents, modern agriculture and competition from stock, and degradation of water sources all impact kangaroo numbers.
We'd love to share lots more information with you about kangaroos in the future, as well as what you can do personally.

We've made some progress over the last six months at Winterwood Farm.
Our two 20x25 grass arenas are almost complete. We've chosen grass because grass is the best surface for rehabilitating horses. We'll also show you our orchard, with a great view of the complex so far!

Swampy meadows are a near extinct ecosystem in many water ways. Winter wood farm is at the head catchment for a small water way that leads to the Windburndale rivulet approx 20 kilometres away.

IMG 1802

There is about 1/2 acre of swampy meadow that is slowly regenerating.

We also have been allowing the 200 acres we are responsible for to regenerate natural pasture. 'Hairy panic' is the main coloniser plant along with 'kangaroo grass'.

Tall stands of yellow box and other gums gently sit in the undulating landscape creating a picturesque scene.

With this regeneration the wildlife is slowly returning. Falcons , eagles and grass parrots all living gently in the space.

The farm is alive with activity!
