Osteomyelitis is a bone infection commonly caused by bacteria but sometimes by a fungus. Bones may become infected by three different means, firstly via the blood, secondly by direct invasion such as fractures or surgery, and thirdly adjacent soft tissue infections.
Once this occurs the soft inner part (bone marrow) can swell and press against the rigid outer wall of the bone. This can further complicate the pathology by cutting the blood supply to the bone or cause abscesses in adjacent tissues.
The symptoms may or may not include fever and persistent pain and swelling in the affected area, restricting movement. The mix for this condition consists of herbs to support bone health generally, the lower levels of the immune system which is involved, and the cleansing from the bones, blood and associated tissues of the toxic products of infection and inflammation.
