My dear standardbred horse Max, who is 20, suffered a fractured hip a couple of years ago in a paddock fall, and prognosis was poor, in terms of even being ‘paddock sound’ and comfortable enough to lead a normal life, where he could lie down, get up, move with relative ease. I was advised to ‘box’ him with view to saying goodbye, in the not too distant future.
Well, Max had other ideas, and while walking with a limp, he decided to get on with life, and managed to get about reasonably well with his two pony companions on an ‘easy to negotiate paddock’. He plodded along, doing ok with help from a few supplements and over winter, some Pentosan injections.
Then a couple of months ago, I put him on McDowells new product, Equiflex, to see how it might help him. Most days he gets a spoonful twice a day and others just once, and the difference has been amazing! He carries himself more confidently, his limp is not as noticeable, he’s even having fun with some athletic playful moves as he discovers renewed flexibility.
