Harry had always been a very “upright” “inside out” mover, with a lot of that underneck muscle tone and little core strength. When I got him, (as a 12yo) his main form of exercise (he was a stabled horse) was on the lunge; and because he was quite uptight and anxious, he never learnt to relax and engage into a biomechanically correct posture. It has been a long journey for us to find relaxation and rhythm under saddle, Harry being diagnosed with kissing spines a key teacher for me about how a horse may move and behave, and why.
I had an excellent horse chiro and physiotherapist introduce me to in-the-paddock stretches I could do with Harry, relaxation & muscle release techniques and he told me to consider Harry’s diet.
I learnt (and am still learning) an incredible deal about the how the digestive system/nervous system/and muscular skeletal system of the horse co-regulate everything from stamina and performance, to behaviour and “ground manners”.
At this time, I was using the McDowell’s products with my brumby, and after noticing a great improvement, I looked for a product to support Harry toward freedom of movement.
The McDowells product I found was Equitone-Forte; a fantastic blend of structural-system-nurturing ground millet and linseed, and anti-inflammatory, immune supporting & digestive soothing herbs like kelp, Rosehips, Slippery Elm, Turmeric, Ginger and black pepper. This product works to nurture the many systems of the horse, for an improvement in health for the whole horse. Harry’s coat shone (he went the darker, more liver chestnut he was as a youngster), he was calmer and more relaxed in his environment and he moved with far more freedom then before.
Overall I recommend this product if you need to compliment the rehabilitation of structural soreness, strain or injuries, support the stiff and arthritic horse.
