"I thought I'd touch base and give you an update on the big orange fella, Confidential.
I have had 'Con' on the Cushing-S program since mid-April and he is doing really well.
He had started to grow that curly coat, had big feathers on his legs and that awful scuff started to appear on his rump and behind his shoulders and on top of his loins. I had also noticed he was drinking and urinating a lot more. He was also a little 'flat' in himself and had lost a bit of condition.
Well, I'm amazed. It's now the beginning of July. He has nearly dropped all of the curly coat - and its the middle of winter! The extra leg hair has gone. The scuff has gone.
He is urinating and drinking normally and he is much brighter in himself. I have been on holidays and had the vet come and do a blood test to test for cushings. The ACHT level came back at 38. Unfortunately I didn't do the test before I put him on the herbs.... as it would have involved an after-hours callout which I just couldn't bring myself to pay. The vet thought he may be pre-cushings with my description but the test came back really low.
He is starting back in light work and is coping well and lines up first to get his halter on to play on the arena.
So thank you Cath. We will keep going with the herbal treatment and am pleased we don't have to go down the medication line.
