Amazing Founder Recovery - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

"Just wanted to update you on my mare and her amazing founder recovery using your Hoof Oil and Nervous Rehabilitation Mix. Did I say AMAZING RECOVERY????? That is what the farrier told me when we took her to have her support shoes reset. It was 3 weeks on 8/27 since I started using the Hoof Oil and N.R. Mix - the date she was actually diagnosed with Founder. The farrier said he could not believe the amount of new hoof growth she had - 1/2 in. of new growth in 4 weeks! He recommended she have the supportive shoeing for 4 additional weeks, then back to regular shoes. Do I continue with oil daily?

I am also using the oil on my other horses 2 or 3 three times a week and their hooves really look great. The NR MIX seems to be helping my mare stay relaxed and I am also using the mix on another older show mare. The mix seems to be working better for my other older mare than for this mare. I believe it may be due to the fact that the older mare has all the characteristics of Valerian/Vervain and this mare is really characteristic of Chamomile. What are your thoughts and suggestions on this?

YOU MIGHT TEST THIS THEORY BY GETTING HOLD OF SOME BULK CHAMOMILE AND MAKING HER A DOSE GIVEN TWICE DAILY OUT OF ONE QUARTER CUP OF FLOWERS STEEPED IN BOILING WATER UNTIL COLD. I DONT REMEMBER IF THIS MARE SCOURS WITH STRESS BUT IF SO I SHOULD ADD SOME DRIED DANDELION LEAVES AS WELL. IF YOU REPORT BACK ON THESE EXPERIMENTS I WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE UP SOMETHING HERE TO FILL IN THE GAPS IN THE NR MIX ONCE YOU HAVE TESTED THESE TWO HERBS.

Next, when I had my mare back at the vet for her founder re-check (she is "out of the woods"!!!! YAY!!) I was advised to have a second opinion about an old lesion that occurred on her back right hind leg. The laceration was deep/lateral along the cannon bone about 5 inches long, and exposed some of the cannon bone. Stitches did not hold and the recommended treatment for the first 4 weeks was to hose the area for 5 minutes twice a day, antibiotics for 10 days, complete stall rest and apply Scarlet Oil and bandage with a thick, snug padded cotton bandage. Then, for the following 2 months the treatment continued but with just one hosing a day.

The start of the 4th month, she did not need to be bandaged any longer, I started exercising her again and she really was healing well and I continued with the Scarlet Oil to present using 3-4 times a week. Interestingly enough, she was never lame on that leg and never developed proud flesh. So, now it is 10 months later and the scar is bad and has one little place in the middle about 1 inch long and 1/2 inch wide that will not heal. The area scabs over and then starts to ooze.

Surgery has been recommended to remove 'possible' sequestered bone and reduce scar tissue - I say 'possible' because the x-rays do not show any dead bone pieces. I'll have to tell you that all I can see in my mind is big red flashing lights that say WHOA! I really don't want to put this mare through surgery - she is just recovering from founder for goodness sakes! Hello! Can you please advise me on this?

APPLY A CASTOR OIL POULTICE DAILY FOR A WEEK TO ASSIST IN DRAWING WHATEVER COULD BE IN THERE TRYING TO GET OUT AND THEN I RECOMMEND TRIALING THE NEW WHEAT GRASS SKIN RECOVERY SPRAY WHICH IS SUBJECT OF A NEWSLETTER COMING OUT THIS WEEKEND. Last, my sister called me yesterday and works with a lady, Carla, who has a horse that is suffering from some sort of severe eye problems. This has been going on for a while and Carla did not seen receptive in the begining to alternative healing. Now, the horse has had everything done to it and most recently was taking to a University Ophthalmology hospital and the eye is getting worse. Carla is now ready to do anything she can to help her horse. I spoke with her and raved about you, herbal horsekeeping, and the amazing things you have done for my mare - I also sent her all your contact information. Carla said she would be contacting you via phone and email.

CARLA WILL FIND THE EYE MIX SHOULD SORT THINGS OUT AND YOUR SISTER SHOULD ENCOURAGE HER TO GET BACK TO ME WITH REGULAR PROGRESS REPORTS UNTIL WE ARE ON TOP OF IT.
