Emma was our beloved greyhound, from the cradle to the grave, she was always ours. Her racing name was 'Speed Dancer", which she was, speedy and a dancer. She was my bestie and constant companion, especially the last 8 years. She passed away aged 15 years and 12 days.
Emma, aged 13, suffered a stroke. I nursed her at home but after a dose of conventional medicine nearly killed her, I wrote to McDowell herbal treatments. She was put on the stroke recovery mix, and brain and vitality mix, with loads of advice on other remedies and teas to use at home. Within 3 weeks of her having her stroke, and 2 weeks after starting on her mixes, my Emma was back to her normal self, yodelling for food and dancing around. She couldn't quite get up the stairs anymore, but she was back to doing zoomies and just loving being alive. She was also put on the arthritis mix (hip dysplasia) for her arthritis and the improvement was absolutely out of sight.
The following year she was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor (on her vulva, of all places) and early stages of heart failure. Once again, McDowells herbal treatments and especially Kate, came to the rescue. Lump removal and old dogs is usually not a good idea, the outcome is not always the desired one, but with the program for Mast Cell Tumour, our Emma got on top of it really quickly. The mast cell tumour had shrunk down from a large purple, blacky looking lump to a small, pinkish lump, 1/4 of a 5 cent piece. I wasn't concerned about it not going away completely. Her comfort was more of a concern, and she responded so well to the mixes. The vet checked her heart a couple of weeks into the treatment and was amazed at how well her heart sounds were.
She was kept on the mixes but like I said, her comfort was more important. Sadly, she had a stroke and or seizure and on a sunny Tuesday morning, she gave up the fight. She closed her eyes but her heart was still beating so strong. We called the vet in and on her blanket, under our big old tree, we set her spirit free. I cannot thank the McDowell Herbal Treatment team, and especially Kate, for all the help and support they have provided. No email or question was ever too much.
Questions were answered straight away. Kate was always on the ball, and seemed to know which questions I had left out asking, but they were answered. Without the support and help, I am certain that my old Emma would never have lasted as long, or had the quality of life she had, right till the end. I miss her every day. I miss our wordless conversations and how well she had me trained. She was an amazing greyhound, who had given us so much, from winning races to having some wonderful fur kids, to being the ultimate couch potato and wonder dog, who shy as she was, and introverted and a lady and wonderful snob, would always manage to make people smile with her antics. She was much loved by us and those who met her, fell in love with her.
