Glenys and her rottweiler, Jami - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Glenys is a regular client of McDowells Herbal Treatments. Glenys contacted us in May of this year on behalf of her rottweiler, Jami, who had been experiencing repeated Urinary Tract infections, was unable to maintain weight, had skin problems and had also uncomfortable scarring as a result of surgery.

June

I would like others to see a very happy ten year old Rotty working through some fairly major health problems. I am lucky enough to be the breeder of Jami. At the age of five he had a severe blockage with a piece of bone blocking the entry to the intestines causing bloating and resulting in major emergency surgery. Unfortunately during the first week of recovery the continuous internal stitches ruptured and he herniated resulting in more surgery. This has left him with a heavy build up of scarring which has of late been creating a lot of discomfort. He has also developed a long term bladder infection which could well be related to this scarring .

But good news! His last urine test was free of the infection and the belly area is much more relaxed with the scarring becoming more flexible making him a very happy energetic boy. He is back to his normal weight and is enjoying trotting around his favourite haunts. Jami is continuing on the Bladder infection drops, along with his Special Conditioner and Maritime Bark drops as prescribed by Cath McDowell. It is great to see him so happy again.

We prescribed the following for Jami;

Conditioning Mix

This complex herbal mixture is my primary rehabilitation tonic for dogs suffering critical metabolic stress resulting from over-medication, digestive problems, liver damage, poisoning, severe trauma, major illness or surgery. The herbal mix includes: Blue Flag Chamomile, Dandelion, Echinacae, Fennel, Garlic, Ginseng, Kelp, Nettle, Parsley, Pine Bark, Red Clover and Violet Leaves as well as the Bach Flowers Olive, Scleranthus, Walnut and Rescue Remedy.

The Conditioning Mix will dramatically speed recovery from any of the above situations and the dog will get back on its feed, beginning to recover its condition within days of starting on a course. Normally, a single 12 week program is all that is required, although some owners prefer to extend this to a second Blend.

My advice generally, after recovering from a major health crisis, is to have you contact me and review the situation after the first 12 week program. I might then recommend a completely different follow up treatment depending on the circumstances and the response to the Conditioning Mix.

Bladder Infection:
We are currently hearing of many dogs experiencing this particular problem. It can be recurrent if they are using antibiotics.

This particular formulation is specific for clearing up any urinary tract infection showing up as odorous or dark coloured urine or incontinence. These infections are really very simple to resolve using herbal medicines and the herbs I include in this mix are Alfalfa, Buchu, Dandelion, Echinacea, Garlic, Rosehips, Uva Ursi and Yarrow along with the Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy and Wild Rose.

This treatment is best used at the first signs of unusual wetting or straining to pass urine and producing little. Temperature or lassitude may also be signs of infection.

The treatment should be continued for a full 12 weeks even if it appears to clear up within a few days.

Maritime Pine Bark

I also suggest long term using our Maritime Pine Bark Extract.
Maritime Pine Bark Extract is my primary immune system tonic for all my Canine patients for it is due to failings within the fundamental levels of the immune system that cause all disease processes to get started.

My standard approach to all immunity boosting protocols involve using the Pine Bark alongside a specific support formulation directed at the particulars of each type of individual situation. I recommend 10 drops for dogs twice daily which is the standard dose when taken as a supplement.

In canine cancer cases I recommend starting for the first month at double the supplement dose rate to give an initial boost to the free radical management in the dog's body before reducing back to the supplement dose.

Maritime Pine is a specialist antioxidant nearly 25 times more powerful than Vitamin C and as such clears free radicals generated by exertion at a phenomenal rate.

The beauty of the liquid extract form of treatment is that it is easily mixed with a tasty snack or fish meat and given without any fuss.
