What should I do with a sarcoid between my horse's bum cheeks!? - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Hi, I have a 4 year old AQHA roan mare that has recently developed what I believe to be a flat sarcoid between her butt cheeks. My Vet recommended I leave it alone due to the location and the likelihood of getting kicked if I were to try the topical treatment as he stated it is very painful. Can you please give me more info on your treatment program. Has it actually been proven to work? Does it cause pain/irritation to the site? Is there any risk of it aggravating the tumor and making it worse? I appreciate your help!

Thanks for your enquiry!

The topical application of ointment is not advised bewtween the cheecks of the horse rear, however the internal formulas are something that you could try.

The sarcoid is an area where the bovine Papiloma virus has taken hold. This happens in horses where they may have a lowered immunity. My approach is to support the immune system to deal with the virus.

A sarcoid can be seen as an attempt by the immune system to package up and get rid of impurities within the blood or the waste products as a result of a virus (Bovine Papilloma Virus)
I have developed a program of internal and external preparations that is effective to deal with Sarcoid’s and any secondary fungal /bacterial infection.
Therefore, the herbs that I include in a mixture aimed at resolving the problem and facilitating the expulsion of the offending matter are as follows: Echinacea, Mistletoe and Equisetum as three of the most powerful and specific blood cleansers; Comfrey to support the immune system and assist with Equisetum in healing any damage caused by the presence of the Sarcoid insofar as it may have effected ligaments for example; Violet Leaves as a Lymphatic Tonic to further facilitate the cleansing via the lymphatic system and Vervain as a nervous system tonic supporting the whole process. The blood cleanser (Infect-a-clear) is suggested for the really stubborn cases, but generally you will see results with the Sarc-void internal and external treatments as well as colloidal silver.

This is given as 60 drops x 2 a day – it can be mixed with a small handful of ground millet and linseed and given by hand if you have another person feeding out for you- you could prepare this ahead of time and place in a small bag ready to be given with each feed.

Extra boosts

Blood Cleanser Infect-a-clear

Robust immune and elimination systems should actively and positively discharge waste products of infection (viral and bacterial) and inflammation. A min of 12 weeks is recommended as an initial course. This mix is particularly good at supporting lung and respiratory health.

Less robust systems will try to function with a toxic load in the blood and will deal with these toxins by storing such products in cysts just under the skin and/or promote elimination through boils or sores.

The blood cleanser contains a class of herbs called alteratives which are particularly high in iron and sulphur and work to support the blood in a number of ways. Other herbs included in the mixture will break down the walls of cysts, aid the lymphatics, kidneys and liver and assist in driving toxins out through the skin and kidneys.

The treatment is to be administered at a dose of 20 mls for the first 10 days syringed over the tongue or mixed with water into feed, twice a day. After the initial booster the dose may be reduced to 10 mls twice per day.

Colloidal Silver ($150 for 5 litres should treat for the full 15 weeks.)

This is what we use as the base for the external concentrate which is a bit stronger than the ointment . You also can give the silver internally to help get rid of the virus responsible for the sarcoid. I suggest 100mls per day internally to do this – we have the colloidal silver in bulk for horse owners who wish to do this as well.
Colloidal Silver was used and proven to be effective against hundreds of disease-causing bacterium and viruses by the 1940s. Its action as a broad spectrum antibiotic has never been matched by the modern pharmaceuticals in that it produces no drug resistance whatsoever.
I mostly recommend that Silver is best used in conjunction with other equine herbal treatments which support the immunity. Specifically it is used as anti-viral in this case internally and topically.
Have you any access to colloidal silver? this is something that you should be able to get locally and start using immediately. Give 100mls x 2 a day and apply topically to the sarcoid.

If in Pain then the Anti-Inflammatory herbal mix may be a good Bute replacer.

Alleviate ($101 1 litre 6 weeks supply) https://shop.mcdowellsherbal.com/alleviate.html

RE Dosage: I suggest for the AIH an initial loading dose of 20mls x 2 a day for two weeks and then reduce back to 10mls x 2 a day thereafter. 1 litre bottle will last 6 weeks at the 10mls dose.

Once you start the new diet and herbs , then we can reassess progress at 6 weeks.

Diet recommendations

Below as some horses can have compromised immune systems and or allergic reactions to some processed foods. The diet that we have outlaid below has been developed to cover all of your horse’s basic nutritional needs without using unnecessary processed foods that can cause all sorts of hidden issues. This would of course be reviewed commensurate with energy requirements.

Diet is important with any recovery program.

As a general rule though, we recommend:

Chamomile flowers ( ½ handful per feed) for nervous system support and to being P, K, mg in balance.

Rosehips (2 tablespoons in 500mls of hot water, divide over 2 feeds) for kidney /liver support, iron, vit c Cobalt.

½ cup of Crushed millet per feed- silica- bone health /hair /connective tissue

½ cup of Crushed Linseed per feed) Omega 3, 6, 9 lignin’s for healthy joints and flexible ligaments.

1 T of Kelp trace elements and iodine for thyroid function

Magnesium supplement – Mg/trace minerals https://shop.mcdowellsherbal.com/mag-a-gg.html

Rice Bran – protein/fat/vit A

Copra Meal- Protein essential fatty acids

Speedi Beet

Hay - pasture or meadow 24/7 or pasture- Calcium

Extra supplements can be given in specific circumstances to address issues….but the above is very good as a basic. And gives a superb coat and muscle condition. You want the horses strong, good muscle mass, low fat – lean and strong. Most commercial feeds fatten the horses and make their metabolism heavy….can lead to insulin resistance and laminitis.
