Borage grows all year round and seeds by itself. John Gerard the herbalist from the 1500's wrote in his decription of borage as bringing happiness and comfort. Borage flowers are renowned to relieve melancholy. The leaves are used for adrenal exhaustion, fevers and chest colds.

It is also a tonic and restorative to adrenal glands, useful when stress threatens to overwhelm you.

  • freeze the flowers and add them to drinks, add to salads.
  • make a tea or add a handful of leaves to home made juice.
  • add leaves to stews and other greens.
  • It can be used as an alternative to Evening Primrose Oil for symptoms of PMT

A plant or two in an indoor pot will provide leaves all winter, but it will need lots of sun. Borage is an excellent companion plant for tomatoes, squash and strawberries. The plant actually improves the flavor of tomatoes growing nearby.
