Sprain - Dislocation - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Autumn-Fall-Autumnal-Park.jpg

An ankle sprain is an injury to the ligaments (the tough elastic tissue that links the bones to one another.

Sprains normally occur when the ankle rolls outwards causing the sole to invert.

The conditions that increase the risk of sprain include loose ligaments, nerve damage, high heels and certain walking patterns.

The severity of the sprain depends on the degree of stretching or tearing of the ligament.

Grade 1.

  • Mild sprain - no tearing , little swelling or pain but increased chance of repeating the injury.

Grade 2.

  • Moderate Sprain - partial tearing , obvious swelling, bruising and pain and difficulty walking.

Grade 3

  • Severe Sprain - complete tearing, swelling and bleeding beneath the skin, unable to bear weight.

On an emotional level it may be that there is some resistance to moving in a certain direction in life.

Bruising, swelling and pain can be reduced by massaging a mix of Arnica, Wintergreen, Elecampane and Rescue Remedy and Linseed Oil into the affected joint.

For severe sprains I also recommend my standard Anti-Inflammatory formulation that contains:-
Oats, Devils Claw, White Willow, Guiacum, Burdock, Pine Bark, Rosehips, Elecampane and Yarrow as well as the Bach Flower Remedies Oak, Rockwater, Honeysuckle, Vine, Walnut and Rescue Remedy.

Dislocation involves the joints coming out of alignment and disjointed due to loose or damaged tendons and ligaments.

The massage oil above is beneficial for this condition after being relocated.
