Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) is becoming much more common in companion dogs nowadays. The vast majority of these cancers are found in the bladder. Sadly, as the symptoms are quite similar, TCC is regularly misdiagnosed as a simple infection. It is easy to understand these oversights but they do delay the correct diagnosis and thus the commencement of treatment.

The causes are open to debate but it is believed that a generalised breakdown of the metabolic and immune systems and bodily processes of the dog underlie the development of these cancers.

Dogs systems are called upon to digest far too much processed food since the advent of commercial dog feed in the 1950's. Also, their eating patterns have been subverted by over feeding so as to deny the long periods of fasting which they experienced in nature and which allowed their metabolism to clear toxins. In addition the domesticated dog is almost never allowed to bury and retrieve a bone and many never have raw meat in their diet at all. This change in diet and feeding practice after almost 5000 years living with humans can be seen as sudden and detrimental to canine health.

Transitional Cell Cancer could therefore be seen as an end result of a systemic and prolonged assault on blood and the immune system in general, which may never have appeared without late 20th century feeding practices.

McDowell’s Herbal dispensary staff prepares a specific Transitional Cell CancerSupport Mix, which includes concentrated extracts of; Bladderack, Elecampane, Dandelion, Golden Seal, Parsley, Rosehips and Buchu along with Bach Flower Remedies Oak, Walnut, Water Violet, Pine and Olive.

This Transitional Cell Cancer Support Mix, is given in conjunction with a powerful antioxidant extract derived from the bark of the Maritime Pine Tree, (Maritime Pine Bark Extract). Together the two support mixes have the potential to slow the growth of the cancer and boost overall health. In addition they can assist in healing localized irritation and inflammation which may have resulted from the cancer.

McDowell’s Herbal Transitional Cell Cancer Support Mix can be used in conjunction with other alternative medicines or with orthodox medical treatments such as surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

The important distinction between our Herbal approach and that of traditional medicine is that; here we are aiming to boost the robust health maintenance and disease fighting systems already at work in every dog, not just remove or kill cancerous cells – hoping they don’t return.

We expect noticeable change and reduced symptoms in the first four to six weeks of having your dog on our Herbal program and ask that you submit regular reports to your McDowell’s Herbal, clinical Consultant.
