Fats are a major source of fuel for the bodies metabolism. Two major fats in the body are cholesterol and triglycerides . Fats or lipids are essential for the cell membranes, myelin sheaths, hormone balance and bile.

They attach themselves to proteins so they can travel through the blood stream. These lipoproteins make up three groups including :-

  • Very low density (VLDL),
  • Low density (LDL) and,
  • High density(HDL).

Each one is required for various purposes and the body regulates levels in specific ways. The low ones are associated with "bad " cholesterol. Ideally HDL should account for more than 25% of total cholesterol.

Two sources contribute to the amount of cholesterol in the human body. Firstly, the liver manufactures about 80 percent of it and secondly, people consume it by eating animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy products.

Long-term problems that result from excess cholesterol can include atherosclerosis, coronary disease, pancreatitis and stroke.

High fat levels can be caused by a diet high in saturated fats, under-active thyroid, overactive pituitary gland, poorly controlled diabetes, hereditary, kidney failure, cirrhosis and porphyria.

The herbs in my cholesterol treatment mix includes Fenugreek, Dandelion, Garlic, Fennel, Rosehips, and Agrimony as well as the Bach Flowers Chestnut Bud, Honeysuckle, Heather and Wild Rose. These herbs work together to increase lymphatic circulation and the digestion of fats, stimulate and support the liver and pancreatic enzymes and metabolically alters the cholesterol to become water soluble.
