Ovarian Cysts/ Polycystic Ovaries - McDowell's Herbal Treatments

Ovarian Cysts sound like some sort of illness or abnormal occurrence but in fact, every month a cyst forms on either the left or the right hand side ovary in a normally ovulating woman.

This 'ovarian cyst' actually contains an immature egg, which matures inside the cyst and then, when it is ready for conception the egg triggers a release of hormone which ruptures the cyst, and the egg is then taken up into the fallopian tube on its way toward to Uterus for fertilisation.

The only difficulty with so-called ovarian cysts is that these cysts have formed but they do not contain an egg and therefore there is no hormonal trigger to allow them to burst and for the material, (usually fluid), within them to dissipate.

Polycystic ovaries are therefore a series of these cysts, which are growing on the ovaries and they can cause problems for fertility; in normal menstruation; and also pain, when eventually they reach a size where they spontaneously rupture.

Ovarian Cysts are not life threatening nor do they contain a whole sac of toxins. Also they are not precursors to cancer or anything else nasty or dangerous.

As with most health conditions, there is a psychosomatic component to the condition and this is also the case in ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries. It appears to be a thwarted or unexpressed desire to procreate, which seems to explain why, very often after a normal pregnancy, the tendency toward ovarian cyst formation, is greatly reduced.

My herbal treatment consists of a concentrated extract of the herb Red Clover (which specifically thins the walls of cysts and encourages the cysts to rupture much earlier in their cycle) along with the herbs Pulsatilla, Phytolacca, Chamomile, Blue Flag, St Mary's Thistle and Chaste Berry. To these I add the Bach Flower Remedies Walnut, Honeysuckle, Red Chestnut, Wild Oat and Impatiens.

This mix is taken three times daily, preferably in a glass of cold Rosehips Tea, and continued for 3 to 6 cycles to clear all existing ovarian cysts and to discourage the formation of new ones. Some women are best remaining on this mix for much longer and there is absolutely no harm in doing so.
