My super quiet standardbred mare, Zoe, could not be paddocked anywhere close to my geldings due to it bringing her into season and then she 'grew horns'.
Her behaviour became dangerously unpredictable and extremely aggressive, especially towards other horses. Handling her was a nightmare and adding chaseberry to her meals helped, but she was still difficult to work with. There was no way her being within striking distance of a gelding was safe!
After doing research and finding McDowell's Hormonal Mare we tried a program including that.
She has settled down enormously and can spend time with the geldings without too many squeals and alarming behaviour. She is much happier now that she can have the company of other horses, and is more affectionate and settled with us.
Even though it is July, she has come into season, but is now far more reasonable. I am tempted to try another bottle to see if that improves her further before Spring!
