Skin Conditions

Acne/ Blood Cleansing Mix

It is important to realise that Acne is not a problem, which can be fixed permanently by putting things on the outside of your skin. Nor should it be treated with antibiotics. Acne is a process where the body is trying to eliminate toxins by pushing them out through skin. These toxic materials may become infected on their way out, but this infection is really just another way of assisting in the expulsion as it brings the material to a head and to the surface.

Aging and Thin Skin

As we age the skin becomes thinner this is because the distribution of fat in old age changes . The underlying fat , so abundant at infancy, is slowly lost (unfortunately it moves to the abdominal area). The skin's connective tissue, called collagen and elastin, undergoes changes, causing the skin to lose firmness and become dry and more fragile. The sweat and oil-secreting glands in the skin also decrease, which makes it harder for the skin to hold moisture. The blood vessels naturally become more fragile, so they are more likely to rupture and leak into the skin.

On your face and the back of your hands where skin is most exposed to the sun it is particularly noticeable that the exposure removes the calciferol layer beneath skin-which is fatty tissue insulator.

Alopecia and Sudden Hair Loss

Alopecia episodes are common enough in adults and are always a result of some sort of shock to the nutrition of the hair follicles in the scalp. Patients report that clumps of hair come away while combing or brushing, often in circular patches.

Alternative Treatment for Burns

A burn is an injury to skin resulting from heat, chemicals or electricity. Burns can effect the skin and also the tissues beneath depending on the severity of the burn.

When tissues are damaged fluid leaks from the blood vessels causing swelling and even shock as blood pressure drops. Bacterial infections are then a very real threat once the skin is broken.

Burns are classified as either first, second,or third degree depending on their severity.

One must never underestimate the results of sunburn both acute and longterm.

Generally exposure to sunlight causes a range of problems as in swelling, pain, redness, blisters, wrinkles, yellow discolouration, scaling and the thinning of the skin over time and of course sunburn predisposes one to skin melanomas in the future.

External Treatment varies according to severity but can include the following:-

Blood Cleanser - Unhealthy Skin Herbal Treatment

It is well known by the medical profession that many skin problems have their origin in the internal systems of the body. Most over-the-counter formulations or prescription treatments however, given to patients with skin problems, are external preparations, which is to say they attempt to treat the skin from the outside.

Chilblains Herbal Treatment

Sometimes called Pernio, these are painful burning sensations in parts of the body previously frostbitten. They are caused by exposure to cold, even slight cold. They are incredibly painful and create an intense itching that is at times difficult to satisfy.

Chilblains are difficult to treat and may recurr for years. Frost bite can occur for a number of reasons including poor circulation due to arteriosclerosis, blood vessel spasms due to smoking or certain drugs or blood flow constriction due to tight socks and boots.

For chronic chilblains I suggest the internal mix for Blood Circulation for Extremities.

Externally I suggest the Chilblain irritant oil which includes Linseed Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Rosemary Oil, Thyme Oil , Comfrey and Aloes along with the Bach Flowers Chestnut Bud and Aspen. Together this mix will reduce swelling, increase circulation and restore healthy skin cells.

Chilblains can be a treated from a nutritional point of view as well, by looking at your a balanced intake of Vit. A, D and Calcium. Cod Liver Oil , Dandelion tea and Fenugreek tea or sprouts are just some ways to address this problem.

Dandruff Herbal Treatment

Dosage:- 20 drops three times per day
Internal Mix - 100ml for $58

Dandruff is also known as seborrheic dermatitis, an inflammation of the upper layers of the skin causing scales on the face and scalp.

It can run in families and can become worse in cold weather. It begins slowly causing dry or greasy scalp, sometimes with itching but not hair loss.

New borns can experience a form known as cradle cap which results in a thick yellow crusted scalp.

Dandruff can be an emotionally based condition with sufferers very often simply reflecting their emotions on their skin or are uncomfortable within themselves and this reflects constantly on the state of their scalp and skin.

Due to dandruff often having a nervous system origin we need to include herbal Nervines (nervous system herbs) to deal with skin problems in humans.

My internal mix to address this condition includes Liquorice, Euphorbia, Chamomile, Nettle, Hypericum and Vervain along with the Bach Flowers Vervain and Impatiens.

External treatment includes Calendula, Vervain, Hypericum, Thuja, Maritime Pine Bark and Comfrey as well as the Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy, Crab Apple and Impatiens mixed into a natural type hair conditioner base and massaged in to the scalp.

Eczema and Dermatitis Herbal Treatment

Herbs have traditionally been used to assist a person to come back to a healthy state of well being. Individual herbs, specifically prescribed for a particular situation may assist the body to come back into balance, thereby allowing a healthy homeostasis to be reinstated as nature intended. The herbalist looks to the whole person, their values and attitudes as well as their circumstances and physical condition along with other aspects of their individuality. This is in marked contrast to the allopathic medicine approach.

Below you will find an example of selected herbs for a particular condition. Herbal support can take a variety of forms and combinations, so it is vital that each person consult directly with a qualified holistic practitioner to gain the full benefit of immunity and health building support.

The terms eczema or dermatitis are used to describe certain kinds of inflamed skin conditions including allergic contact dermatitis and nummular dermatitis. Eczema can be red, blistering, oozing, scaly, brownish, or thickened and usually itches. A particular type is called atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema.

Atopic Dermatitis or Atopic Eczema:
The word "atopic" means there is a tendency for excess inflammation in the skin and linings of the nose and lungs. This often runs in families with conditions such as asthma, sensitive skin, migraines and psoriasis.

Atopic dermatitis is very common in all parts of the world. It affects about 10% of infants, while it can occur at any age it is most common in infants and young adults . The skin rash is very itchy and can be widespread, or limited to a few areas.

The condition frequently improves with adolescence, but many patients are affected throughout life, although not as severely as in early childhood.

Infantile Eczema:
This is an itchy, oozing, crusting rash and occurs mainly on the face and scalp, but patches can appear anywhere especially in flexures of elbow, neck and knees. Because of the itch, children may rub their head, cheeks, and other patches with a hand, a pillow, or anything within reach. Many babies improve before two years of age.

Eczema in Later Life:
In teens and young adults, the patches typically occur on the hands and feet. However, any area such as the bends of the elbows, backs of the knees, ankles, wrists, face, neck, and upper chest may be affected. When it appears on the palms, backs of the hands, fingers, or on the feet, there can be episodes of crusting and oozing.
Other eczema patches in this stage are typically dry, red to brownish-gray, and may be scaly or thickened. The thickened areas may last for years without treatment. The intense, almost unbearable itching can continue, and may be most noticeable at night. Some patients scratch the skin until it bleeds and crusts. When this occurs, the skin can get infected.

Paw Paw has been used with some amazing results. Applying the inside of Paw Paw skin to the effected area is all that is needed. However an ointment with Paw Paw base may be preferred.

Another avenue that may assist some people is to consider the acidity of your urine, sweat or saliva which can irritate sensitive skin. Like babies with nappy rash from their own urine or irritations at the corners of their mouths from saliva.

Fruit and juices especially apple juice and orange juice and too many tomatoes often cause the perspiration in a person with particularly sensitive skin to be even more acid and sufficiently strong to irritate the skin.

The simplest way to balance the acid out in the first instance is to have make sure you drink quite a lot more plain water to dilute the acidity of the blood and perspiration. The herb Alfalfa also helps and this can be used as sprouts.

Drinking Cold rosehip tea would also be beneficial--three times per day.

If you haven't tried these simple remedies may be you could see if they make a difference . It could be that you are drinking very little water indeed.

My internal mix to address these very uncomfortable conditions contains:- Chamomile, Burdock, Vervain, Mistletoe, Hypericum and Euphorbia along with the Bach Flowers Red Chestnut, Chestnut Bud and Vervain.

Externally I recommend applying a mix of Chamomile, Comfrey, Vervain and Golden Seal in a Hypericum Oil Base along with the Bach Flowers Red Chestnut, Crab Apple, Vervain and Rescue Remedy.

Scar Healing

The essential ingredient to such scar minimisation is the herb Comfrey which has been used forever for healing because of its ability to speed up cell replication. If the scar is massaged daily with a cream containing Comfrey, the massage stimulates blood supply to the scar tissue itself and the Comfrey supports the replacement of scar tissue cells with normal cells over time.
